Ronald Douglas "Ronnie" Montrose.
I'm a little late with this but who cares. I just listened to this tune on my iPod and thought you'd appreciate the flashback to memory lane.
(In case you weren't aware, that indeed is Sammy Hagar - vocals)

Happy Birthday Iron Fist
On this day in Motörhead history April 17, 1982 'Iron Fist' is released.
Need something to commemorate the occasion? How about a cool f#ckin' T-shirt.
Mikkey Dee is f#ckin' amazing, Phil can shred with the best of 'em and Lemmy, never better. As for my choice, well I'm unlike those who choose one lineup over another because it's simple:
Motörhead is Lemmy, Lemmy is Motörhead. Period.

From their web store: Motörhead Iron Fist double sided Men's Tee. "(Don't Let 'Em) GRIND YA DOWN" proudly displayed on the back of the shirt. Made by Hanes Heavyweight of soft 100% cotton.
Get it here;
So... still bitchin' that the OG lineup of Kilmister, Clarke and Taylor is, and forever will be, the best Motörhead trio of all time? Well, here's 'Iron Fist' then and now, 30 years later.
You be the judge bitches.

Remembering Dimebag
On this date Thursday December 8, we mark the 7-year anniversary of the death of "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. The legendary Pantera and Damageplan guitarist was shot to death onstage during a Damageplan show at the Alrosa Villa club in Columbus, Ohio in 2004.
Video: I love this clinic/demo featuring Dimebag.
The day after Dimebag's murder, his brother's Vinnie Paul released the following statement:
"With all his greatness and accomplishments on the guitar, Dime will be missed more for his giving personality, charisma, caring for others, love and most of all his HEART!! Twice as big as the state of TEXAS!!!!!!!!!!!! Dime gave it all every day to each and every one of us and our lives have forever been hollowed without him...Thanks to all of you for reaching out to us in this time of our immeasurable loss. REST IN PEACE BROTHER DIME!!!!!!"

New 5FDP Video 'Under it, Over it'
Love the new single/video from Five Finger Death Punch 'Under it Over it', from the new CD 'American Capitalist'.
Music columnist Darryl Smyers of the Dallas Observer interviewed guitarist Jason Hook. Here's an excerpt from the one-on-one below.
.
Darryl Smyers: There is a wide demographic of people who go to hear the band live. What does it take to appeal to fans of many different ages?Jason Hook: I think it comes down to songs, personality and performance. There is a lot there for everybody. If you are a drummer, we have a star drummer. If you like hotshot guitar playing, we have that. If you are into bands that are angry, we are certainly that. But we also have melodies and choruses. There is a lot there for just about everybody. We are the eBay of metal.
Love it. The rest of the interview is just as revealing. (click on the link provided for more)

Happy anniversary to Motörhead's iconic album Ace of Spades.
Here's an older post I penned about my 'Ace of Spades' rule. A rule everyone should live and obied by (in my humble opinion).

Stormtrooper
It never F#CKN' fails, whenever I search for something in particular, I always end up finding something else. Something... that is so far off the beaten track, that I end up not remembering what I was searching for in the first place. Case in point. Tank's '(He fell in love with a) Stormtrooper' (produced by Fast Eddy Clarke - Motörhead). This brings back memories.
OK, that's just phucking awesome!
The debut album was released in the spring of 1982. Tank (given their close association with Clarke and Motörhead) was added to the line up, in the second part of the Motörhead tour that year, which covered mostly UK dates.
The band's original members included: Algy Ward (vocals, bass) Peter Brabbs (guitar) Mike Brabbs (drums). 'Filth Hounds of Hades' was very successful debut, getting great reviews in the press and a very positive feedback from the fans. And why not, with tracks like 'Stormtrooper', 'Blood Guts & Beer', 'Struck by Lightning' and my favourite 'T.W.D.A.M.O.'. It's truly a must for any Motörheadbanger! You can pick it up here.

5FDP Unplugged - 'Bad Company'
It's no secret... I've been a big fan of Five Finger Death Punch from day one. In spite of the fact this song is the only tune that is getting any radio air play, the band is gaining a rabid following of fans. After you see this you may become a 5FDP supporter as well.

Onslaught Covers Bömber
OK... this is kick a$$! Onslaught, the thrash metal legends from Bristol, England have released a cover of Motörhead's 'Bomber' prior to unveiling their forthcoming CD/album (number five), 'Sounds Of Violence'.
The single will also include the title track from the new CD/album 'Sounds Of Violence'.
Rockett added "We've given it a pretty aggressive Onslaught slant and thrashed it up little, but still very much retaining the original identity of the song".

Hats off to the boys, that cover is worth adding to any metal collection if I say so myself... and I say so, MOFO!

The single will also include the title track from the new CD/album 'Sounds Of Violence'.
Lead guitarist Nige Rockett was recently interviewed by Blabbermouth. Rockett was quoted as saying "Motörhead have always been a huge influence on Onslaught".
Rockett added "We've given it a pretty aggressive Onslaught slant and thrashed it up little, but still very much retaining the original identity of the song".
To spice things up a bit and make things a little more interesting, the band added two very special guests to sit in on the recording.

Yup, Phil Campbell was asked to add his unique sound to the mix and laid down a pretty awesome riff for the new tune!
Sodom lead singer Tom Angelripper shared the vocal duties with Onslaught's Sy Keeler. Rockett says "He laid down some great f#cking vocals, as you will hear, and it's really added something special to the final result."

'Sounds Of Violence' is set to be released in the U.K. 01/28/2011 and in North America 02/08/2011.
They just posted the 'Bomber' video and it features Phil and Angelripper tearing it up. Love what Phil has to say about his payment for his involvement in the song.

Merry Megadethmas
Check it. I found these killer Christmas cards on Megadeth's Facebook page. The band held a contest, awarding prizes for the best cards. Here are the top 3 cards.
They're frickn' awesome!
Theses last two are killer as well! Wow, some talented offerings from Mega-fans! You know, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to receiving one of these cards in the mail. Merry Megadethmas indeed!

Ozzy in River City
My hearing has finally returned to normal. The 'Prince of Darkness' Ozzy Osbourne and crew ripped it up in the River City 11/20/2010.
The stage featured a simple setup with a huge Ozzy sign in front of a video screen. We had incredible seats and the speakers were just above our heads. Needless to say, I forgot my earplugs. Ya, I'm gettin' old, f#ck off!
Ozzy and his four-piece band covered 40 years of metal with Black Sabbath favourites 'Fairies Wear Boots', 'War Pigs', 'N.I.B.' and 'Iron Man'.
He also played some new material and all time faves as well like: 'I Don't Know', 'Crazy Train' and 'Flying High Again'.
There of course were various concussion bombs and pyrotechnic explosions, but it was the music fans were there for and they weren't disappointed.
New guitarist Gus G. doesn't command the stage like his predecessor Zakk Wylde did,
but he proved himself worthy enough to fill the shoes of the formidable guitarists whose riffs he cranked out all night.
From those killer power chords of Tony Iommi...
to Randy Rhoads' lightning fingered solos.
Gus told the Greek edition of Metal Hammer how he got the gig with Ozzy, "I got a message on my MySpace page from Rob 'Blasko' (Nicholson), Ozzy's bass player, asking me what was doing, if I was living in America or not and saying that he wanted to talk to me.
I never thought he'd want me for something like that (playing with Ozzy). I initially thought that maybe he wanted to talk to me about doing a project or something and then he told me that one of Ozzfest's managers was looking for me".

The manager said that they wanted me to fly out to Los Angeles immediately for a show that Ozzy was about to do in Anaheim, California."
Prior to the show, this is froman interview Ozzy gave to a local rag. "I mean, rock 'n' roll is getting stoned and getting f#cking drunk". "It's part of the job, you know. I suppose for an alcoholic or drug addict, it's the perfect job, you know. I don't think you can ever think of another job where you would turn up stoned," he said. "People would go, f#cking hell, you've got to do surgery today."

You've been waiting and now it's here. Motörhead's 20th studio album/CD 'The Wörld Is Yours', hits store shelves in the UK 12/13/2010.
A media release says the new album 'The Wörld Is Yours', "serves to remind everyone that you should never stop questioning or critiquing a society that would surely chew you up and spit you if given half a chance."
Here's the track list for The Wörld Is Yours:
1. Born To Lose
2. I Know How To Die
3. Get Back In Line
4. Devils In My Head
5. Rock 'N' Roll Music
6. Waiting For The Snake
7. Brotherhood Of Man
8. Outlaw
9. I Know What You Need
A sample compilation of some of the songs were released on YouTube. Take a listen, I certainly like what I'm hearing.
The Wörld Is Yours was produced by Cameron Webb. Like their 2008 release 'Motörizer', Mikkey D's drum tracks were layed down at Dave Grohl 606 Studios, in Southern California.
For those of us on this side of the pond, A North American release date has not been announced. Lemmy, Phil and Mikkey D. will also support the album with a European tour.

AC/DC Iron Man II Sound Track
I just uploaded the 'AC/DC: Iron Man 2' sound track onto my iPod. The CD features 15 classic AC/DC songs selected from 10 of the band's studio albums, ranging from 1976 to 2008. Bon Scott or Brian Johnson - you be the judge.
AC/DC Iron Man 2" Track Listing:
1. Shoot to Thrill
2. Rock 'N' Roll Damnation
3. Guns for Hire
4. Cold Hearted Man
5. Back in Black
6. Thunderstruck
7. If You Want Blood (You've Got It)
8. Evil Walks
9. T.N.T.
10. Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be
11. Have a Drink on Me
12. The Razor's Edge
13. Let There Be Rock
14. War Machine
15. Highway to Hell
Seriously! Seriously! Song #3 'Guns for Hire' and #10 'Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be' brought me back to a place, a time in my life, I some times wish I could return to. I am some what embarrassed to say... I forgot how good these tracks really are. This album is non-stop rock n' roll! Ya, ya... we all own these tunes in one form or another, however listening/placing them in this compilation... pure genius! They seem to be made to go together. Now I wanna' see the movie! I mean even if it sucks, the soundtrack will keep me in my seat. Oh, and I do like theatre popcorn.

Lemmy In The News
Finally, some news worth posting regarding 'Lemmy: The Movie' featuring our hero, Motörhead bassist-vocalist Lemmy Kilmister.
The feature-length documentary will premiere in the U.K. at the London Film Festival 10/23/2010. Ya, but that's been in the papers for weeks now.
Here's what I'm talkin' about. For those Motörhead fans unfortunate enough to live on this side of the pond, and who won't be able to make the trip to jolly ol' England, the doc will be released on DVD 01/24/2011.
I can't wait. As I've documented in past posts, the film, directed by Greg Olliver and Wes Orshoski, features Q&A's with Metallica, Mick Jones, Dave Grohl, Ozzy, and Slash just to name a few.
As you may well know, 2010 marks the 35th anniversary of the birth of Motörhead... and the snaggletöothed wonder himself is turning 65 years old.
Holy $hit. The man still smokes 2-packs of Marlboro's and drinks a bottle of Jack Daniel's a day. While some may refer to him as 51% Mother F#cker and 49% $on of a bitch.... I'd say, he's 100% GOD!

Head Cat Rocks Chico
Lemmy and the Head Cats are tearin' it up on their, albeit limited, US dates.
There most recent tour stop was at El Rey theatre in California.
Tyler Ash of the Orion, sat down with Lemmy for a Q&A about his involvement with Head Cat. Here's a line from the article that I just couldn't resist posting.
Although Lemmy's not too fond of the video game itself, he was also in 'Guitar Hero: Metallica'.
"It's pretty sad really," he said. "Why don't you learn to play a real guitar? I mean, no chicks are gonna suck your dick for a fuckin' little plastic guitar - that's not how it works."
Classic Lemmy!

The Big 4 DVD
This is going to be wicked! Check it, 'The Big 4: Live from Sofia, Bulgaria'. I know, we've all heard about the concert and now the DVD (Blue-ray) is about to hit store shelves.
So, what do you get? Well, the full shows from all four bands will be included in the two disc set, along with behind the scenes footage and interviews with the guys.
Ya, that would be one kick a$$ show to have taken in. Oh, and speaking of kick a$$, I never get tired of using this photo of James and Dave.

Ha! Ya, those were the good ol' days! I don't even remember where I found it (I usually give credit to the photographer). I just can't get over how great this pic is, GOLD baby! Ha! Best of pals. Chums. Buds forever! NOOOOOOT!

All right back to the post. In addition to the two DVD set and the Blu-ray, there will be a limited edition super deluxe box set including the DVD set, five CD's with all the music, a 24 page booklet, a poster, photos of each band, and a Big 4 guitar pick.

Cowboys From Hell - 20th Anniversary

Many say this is the landmark album that stamped the band's pummeling rhythmic, bone-crushing sound and was for all-intense-and-purposes, the quintessential beginning of the band.

The reason - it was the official debut of the Pantera lineup with singer Philip Anselmo, 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott, his brother Vinnie Paul and Rex Brown.

To celebrate the occasion, Rhino is releasing a $hit load of CFH musical memorabilia. Including three anniversary collections for the Pantera aficionado, like this two-disc expanded edition.

This includes a newly remastered version of the original album along with unreleased and rare live performances.
"But wait if you order now...." There is also a three-disc deluxe edition for your listening pleasure.

"But wait if you order now...." There is also a three-disc deluxe edition for your listening pleasure.
It also has a remastered version of the original CD along with unreleased and live performances from the CFH Tour. On the third disk - unreleased demos for nearly every album track. Plus, 'The Will To Survive' a previously unreleased song recorded during the album’s sessions. 35 tracks in total.

Pantera's website is offering a limited edition, web store exclusive box set. It contains merchandise only available in the band's official web store!
You get: Cowboys from Hell Logo Flask, Belt Buckle Bottle Opener, Cowboys from Hell Exclusive T-Shirt, 4 Piece Guitar Pick Set, Cowboys from Hell 20th Anniversary Expanded CD. All the $hit come in a Texas Shaped Collector box - whoopee (note the sarcasm)!

This however, is totally fu#kin' bogus. There is a CFH 20th Anniversary iTunes LP which was released 09/16/2010! Seriously. I mean, if you're a serious collector, the last thing you want on your stuff is an Apple logo!
If you are interested: (from their site) the iTunes version includes all 35 tracks from Deluxe Edition and videos. Includes rare photos, memorabilia, lyrics, discography & liner notes from all surviving band members.

This next item however takes the cake! Actually it's something I may even consider snapping up. An ultimate edition box set is scheduled for release in November.

As far as the tunes go, well the ultimate set is the same as the Deluxe.

But dude... it's all the collectibles that amount to the $100 price point. And there isn't a man in his right mind who can refuse a box!

Amazon has the UE box set for sale 11/22/2010.
Can't post a write up on CFH, and not include the tune itself! This is from their stop in Russia. DD is awesome as usual! Enjoy.
For F#ck sakes! I sit down to watch that killer video, and some prick steals my three-disc deluxe edition CD set!

You better run for cover mutha fu#ka, cause' "this pistol down below is aimed at you and I'm a Cowboy From Hell"!
