Dimebag Tribute

I've been anticipating it's release for some time and now we know the "official" line up and the tracks for Metal Hammer's 'Dimebag Darrell Tribute Album'.

(Dimebag is on the far right)

The CD/Albums release coincides with Metalhammer magazines 200th issue. The CD is inside the mag and comes packaged with it. It goes on sale Dec. 16th. Wicked!

Here's the kick a$$ track list. No matter the price, the first four tunes listed, make the purchase of the mag worth every penny.

01. ZAKK WYLDE - "Suicide Note Part 1"
02.
MACHINE HEAD - "Fucking Hostile"
03.
MALEFICE - "I'm Broken"
04.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD - "Walk"
05.
EVILE - "Cemetery Gates"
06.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH - "A New Level"
07.
BIOHAZARD - "Mouth For War"
08.
SYLOSIS - "Strength Beyond Strength"
09.
CHIMAIRA - "Slaughtered"
10.
UNEARTH - "Sandblasted Skin"
11.
THROWDOWN - "Becoming"
12.
KIUAS - "This Love"
13.
THIS IS HELL - "Rise"

Check it, Avenged Sevenfold's cover of "Walk".

Vocals aside, I can't imagine the pressure on AS lead guitarist Synyster Gates AKA: Brian Elwin Haner, Jr..

Here's (in my HO) a reasonable facsimile of the conversation between Gates and the rest of the band "Ya dude, you gotta' play like Dimebag Darrell... good luck!"

The other notable coincidence, the release of the mag & CD, mark the five year anniversary of Dimebag's untimely death.

I love what Robb Flynn, lead singer of Machine Head, said to Metal Hammer about the band's decision to play 'F#cking Hostile'.

"It was either that or 'Strength Beyond Strength' from 'Far Beyond Driven'. In the end, we decided that we wanted to do a classic. We chose 'F%cking Hostile' because it’s two and a half minutes of pure, raging metal. It's short, fast and brutal."

Darrell wouldn't have it any other way. RIP.

Good post!

I am reminded to Dimebag's wizardry and it is appropriate that MetalHammer celebrate it

Merci Jimmy. A truly underrated shredder! The guy really did fly under the radar and has never (in my HO) really been given the props he deserves. From what I've read/seen about Dimebag, for him... it was always about the music - never about fame or money.
