Happy New Year

An 'Ofrendas' From David Lozeau

OK, I don't hate the fe-mailman, thanks to that photo radar/speeding ticket I received via the mail (refer to post: Speed trap Blues).

That's because this came in the mail New Years Eve.

As soon as I saw it, I knew what it was. The David Lozeau sticker and 'Do Not Bend' markings gave it away as well.

This is what popped out first. A post card that doubles as David's business card. Cool!

And here's what followed. 'Banditos Prayer' by David Lozeau.

That's right, an 8x10 print of one of his finest (in my HO) El Día de los Muertos pieces.

Wicked... frickin'... cool!

Merci Dave!!!!

And Dave, thanks for paying for the postage! Wow, what a start to the New Year.

Speed Trap Blues

This ain't the kinda' Christmas card I was expecting.

It's from the friendly neighbourhood police photo enforcement department.

Yup, I got a speeding ticket on the second last day of the riding season. That blows! So do photo radar/speeding cameras. It's just a cash grab.

That's my fat a$$ on the Motörheadster all right. I may move the license plate further forward on the swing arm, so the camera won't pick it up next time (I gotta' feelin' this won't be my last ticket).

My speed: 81 km/h (50 mp/h) Posted limit: 50 km/h (31 mp/h). Sorry for the blurry shot. I used macro, but it just wouldn't focus.

Here's the damage to my wallet, $278 bucks. The magistrate however (as you can see in the pic above), did push back the payment date to Feb 24/2010. Gee thanks!

Ya, image capturing enforcement all right.

Here... capture this image dick heads!

Out for a Rip Ride

Here's the scenario.

It's minus 22 degrees Celsius, there's 14 centimeters of fresh, new, fluffy snow and acre upon acre of unfenced land on our doorstep. Perfect for rippin' it up on the sleds.

This my friends, is how bikers have fun in the winter. The motorcycles may be put away, but our snow machines allow us to get out 'n play!

Nothin' but hills, coolies and the open lake (albeit dotted with a few ice huts here and there) to explore.

The brother-out-law and I took the kids out for the afternoon. We brought along their toboggans and found a smaller hill for sliding down. This spot was perfect. As the little guy (pictured above) would say... "It's steep and deep".

There's a shot of an ice fishing hut (AKA: truck camper) parked on the ice. That's how it's done out in the boonies.

Hey Vern, here's how we fish when the pond ain't freezin.

Yup, life in south central Saskatchewan (where we spent Christmas) is fairly simple. Kinda' like the people.

Ahhhh, a relaxing beer after a hard day on the snow mobiles (not me, but he does bare a striking resemblance to your humble narrator).

Here's another snap to give you an idea of how much room we had to play. Awesome!

However there are hidden dangers as I discovered. Rabbit droppings. At least they were frozen so they didn't stick to our boots. Just don't mistake them for acorns, they have a very bitter taste. Hey, I'm kidding! Silly Rabbit, you have to fry 'em first.

They don't call it the 'Gods Country' for nothin'!

Calendar Girls

The new year is just around the corner and I don't know about you, but I don't have a 2010 calendar yet (even though every insurance company, bank and credit card company is offering me one, if I sign up).

But I may sign up for this one. I think I've have found a calendar to my liking. I came across this beauty on Cafe Racer Culture blog.

Wow. The photography is top notch and the beautiful artwork (and ladies) would definitely help spruce up any old, dingy work shop wall.

While I was wandering around the triple-w, I also came across this little gem. It's offered by Cafe Racer Michigan.

(Just click on pic for a link to eBay)

I would be remiss if I didn't mention Zero Engineering's annual calendar.

The Japanese custom bike builder is known for its annual printed publication, a system of organizing days for social, religious, commercial, or administrative purposes.

All right, all right. I admit it... it's known for hot babes on kick a$$ machines. And for the first time it's available outside of the US.

This periodical is a classy cut above the norm. The calendar is a garage wall friendly 12" x 12" and will set you back $14.99. It's cheaper than some and it helps pay the bills.

Now, A lot of clubs produce calendars as fundraisers to help with expenses.

For example: The Women of Climbing have their own calendar.

There's one for a Canadian women's Rugby Team.

The Women of Curling has always been a hot seller worldwide.

And we can't forget about the ladies Biathlon team calendar.

Nice. Chicks with guns... can't go wrong there (just don't get 'em mad).

And that got me thinkin'... the Lincolnshire Bombers Roller Girls Team should produce a calendar!

What do ya say Minx?!?!

Velvet Lemmy

Have you ever said to yourself... self, you know what's missing from my living room wall... a velvet painting! Well check it out, a velvet Lemmy Kilmister.

This piece was painted by Bethany Cisco of Chicago.

Bethany is a tattoo artist by trade and works out of the Tattoo Factory.

She must be a Motörhead fan, because she also whipped up this beauty of Snaggletöoth.

She's also painted Johnny Cash on velvet. But hey... he's a natural. They don't call him the man in black (or ON black in this case) for nothin'! You can check out her work at: viciousvelvets.

But of course any velvet painting collection wouldn't be complete without a velvet Elvis. But this ain't your typical velvet piece. This puppy is a 12 foot square, floor to ceiling velvet Elvis!

Yep... Bethany's work made it into 'Ripley's... Believe It or Not!'.

Here's her painting against the side of a house (to give you a better idea of just how big it is).

You might say it's a King sized, King. Thank ya... thank ya very much!

Bikes & Burgers

Next time you're in Tempe AZ., check out the Sucker Punch Sally Diner.

These guys produce kick a$$ custom motorcycles, so one can only assume/hope they'll also churn out wicked burgers, shakes and fries.

It's the boys latest project in their ever expanding business.

However this is how they make their bread & butter.

This slick scoot from SPS is called the 'Workin' Man's Special' and won best built bike of 2009.

The former Ruby Tuesday's, has been decorated with vintage motorcycles and Fender guitars (and obviously silver clad metallic benches).

The 50's style diner, will offer breakfast 24-7, and have live music every weekend, they officially open Jan. 1st 2010.

Ah yes, but as you may know, SPS wasn't the first motorcycle manufacturer to open a burger joint with a bike theme.

One of the oldest motorcycle restaurants is the Ace Cafe London.

This place is all about man, machine and meals.

The cafe has been around for seventy two years and it's as popular now, as it ever was.

And just like anything else now-a-days, no matter what you want... you can get it with an Ace logo on it.

But hey I'm not complaining... that jacket is SIC!

You may also remember Jesse James of West Coast Choppers fame opened 'Cisco' Burger a couple of years ago.

I haven't eaten there, but according to reviews the food is pretty good.

Like him or not, it's a great marketing move on Jesse' part. And chances are, you may even run into Jesse, cause he seems to hang out at the place.

Wow, look at the size of those... onion rings!
